Dramaturg, Co-Director MEN THINK THEY ARE BETTER THAN GRASS

Jayne Wenger is a director and dramaturg whose exclusive focus is on original material. Throughout over 25 years of professional theater experience she has been dedicated to the development, direction and production of new plays and solo performances. Her work has been recognized with numerous awards. She is the past Artistic Director of the Bay Area Playwrights Foundation, and was the Artistic Director of Women’s Ensemble in New York. She has developed the emerging work of acclaimed playwrights such as Naomi Izuka, Dan Hoyle, Sara Felder, Nilo Cruz, Christine Evans, Anne Galjour, Holly Hughes, Brighde Mullins, Brenda Wong Aoki and Kate Bornstein, among many others. She has collaborated with Claire Chafee on numerous projects, including the original direction of the 1992 world premiere of Why We Have a Body at the Magic Theater.In December of 2008 she directed a reading of Chafee’s new play “Whisper From The Book of Etiquette” for the Commonwealth Club of San Francisco. Her dramaturgy and direction of Anne Galjour’s new solo piece “You Can’t Get There From Here” enjoyed its world premier at Dartmouth College, the show toured the Eastern States in November and December of 2008. This show will have a West Coast premier at The Magic Theatre in September of 2009. In January of 2008 she directed Deke Weaver’s “The Crimes of Confessions of Kip Knudson, A Hockey Way of Knowledge” at the Station Theater; in Urbana, Illinois. The show toured the Midwest in February.Current projects include collaborations with Liebe Wetzel’s “Lunatique Fantastique, Lauren Yee for Diva Fest at the Exit Theater and with poet and playwright Arlitia Jones for Cyrano’s Theater in Anchorage, Alaska. In June she returns as a guest artist to the Last Frontier Theatre Conference in Valdez, Alaska where she leads workshops on Play Development and Directing New Works. She will return for the second consecutive year to Art Workshop International in Assisi, Italy this August where she teaches a two-week “Playwrights Intensive” workshop (www.artworkshopintl.com). She is a member of Alter Theater Ensemble, a member of the Literary Managers and Dramaturgs of the Americas, and the Dramatists Guild.
