Deborah Slater Dance Theater - Opportunities



Deborah Slater Dance Theater, one of San Francisco’s premier dance theater companies, seeks a reliable, detail oriented, independent thinker to support the Artistic Director and other DSDT staff with the general operations needs of a fast paced, nonprofit performing arts organization. Candidates should exhibit a positive attitude and a diverse skillset including strategic thinking and problem solving; as well as a collaborative work ethic, and a commitment to equity and inclusion.

Hours: Part Time: 20-25 hours a week. (Approximately 80 - 100 hours a month)
Compensation: based on experience, independent contractor position

Position Summary

Position Requirements:
Ideal candidates will have experience in nonprofit performing arts management
Flexible work week, weekly meetings with Artistic Director
Computer proficiency, preferably with Mac devices, including the Office suite, Google Drive, and graphic design platforms
An effective communicator, both written and oral
Dedicated team player with an independent and creative attitude
Self-motivated, good organizational skills, ability to prioritize, multitask, and meet deadlines
Community focused and willing to interact with our artistic teams and audiences

Essential Job Functions:

- Maintain and oversee all calendars, including deadlines, meetings and coordinate scheduling with company scheduler.
- Finding and overseeing intern/volunteers

- Work directly with the Artistic Director and accountant/bookkeeper to develop budgets and ensure overall financial discipline
- Oversee receipts for donations and issue thank you letters to donors
- Grants Management and Fundraising Development
- Maintain and manage the grants calendar, prospects list and grant narrative templates
- Identify new funding opportunities for the company
- Oversee all Donor databases and CRM systems that facilitate donor cultivation
- Support all Fundraising efforts led by the Company
- In collaboration with the Artistic Director, lead the preparation and submission of proposals and reports
- Maintain hard (as needed) and electronic copies of grant files/history/databases/receivables and other files as necessary
- Representing the company at conferences (if funding is secured), grant information sessions, productions where the company presents work and other events as needed
- Seeking out in-kind donations with the help of Board members

Human Resources
- Manage the execution of all contracts for each production with supervision from the Artistic Director

Marketing/ PR/ Ticketing/ Special Events
- Manage DSDT marketing including social media, email marketing, designing graphics
- Developing marketing plan and timeline for each project
- Coordinating the preparation and distribution of press releases, advertising and marketing pieces sometimes in collaboration with hired PR person
- Assisting with ticket sales and setup of online ticketing (Eventbrite)
- On-site management for day-of event logistics, including load-in, load-out and point of contact during entire event
- Lead all web maintenance and updates for the company

- Work with staff to create and plan logistics for all public programs, performances and events

- Assisting Artistic Director with oversight of administration of the company
- Coordinating details for productions such as DSDT major works and our presentations with Bay Area Dance Week and other partners
- Schedule, maintain, manage Google calendars and task lists
- Scheduling with dancers and touring details (if touring)
- Staffing and recruitment of volunteers for events and projects

- Managing communications with the Board, attending Board meetings bi-monthly, taking notes, and recruiting new Board members

Performances & Special Events

DSDT needs a variety of volunteer staff for performances and special fundraising events. These opportunities include free admission to the event itself and duties generally include: ushering, greeting, food or beverage service, merchandising, and providing information about the company to patrons and audience members.

Administrative Support

DSDT is in the process of expanding its administrative staff and needs general office support for its fundraising and marketing efforts. Volunteers in this area should have some office experience, be Mac-friendly and internet literate, and have an eye for detail. Having your own laptop to bring in to the studio is a plus!

DSDT is working on digitizing its photo, video and archives of the past 20 years of performances. Post-production and editing in all of these areas is needed as well as those interested in helping to create new media content for the web.
