SUMMARY:Studio 210 Presents: Summer 2020 Residents Evan Johnson and Bhumi B. Patel
DESCRIPTION:Join us for a virtual performance by and discussion with our Summer 2020 Residents: Evan Johnson/The Cosmic Elders Theatre Ensemble and Bhumi B. Patel/pateldanceworks.  The performance showcase invites virtual audiences to focus on the intersection of embodied sensation over stagnant forms, and explores how remote technology can forge creative ground within our climate of national crisis.\n\nDATES: July 31-August 1st, 2020 | 6pm\nLOCATION: Online via Zoom\nSuggested donation $5-50\nTICKETS: bit.ly/DSDT2020\n\nDonations help support our Residency program and Studio 210.\nEvan Johnson/The Cosmic Elders Theatre Ensembles’ Voice Over Project inquires how to subvert traditional systems of power through innovative technological forms. Through various experiments of de-centering and de-constructing how the body and voice are experienced, the intergenerational group will navigate uncharted territories within the context of remote performance making.\nBhumi B. Patel’s pateldanceworks will present the long shadow, a reimagined virtual performance extending from our work divisions the empire has sown. Patel and collaborators look at the questions of resistance and resilience, dominance and dissonance, and the shadows of colonization that we are all part of today.\nAudience participation is the final major component of this residency for the artists and we invite the audience to participate in a discussion following the performance portion of the evening. The artists will first ask questions of the audience and then the audience will have an opportunity to ask the artists and performers questions. \nDeborah Slater Dance Theater’s 210 Summer Residency supports Bay Area artists in need of space to make their work. DSDT is happy to make a rare offer of rehearsal space, performance opportunities, peer support and professional mentorship and feedback from Deborah Slater. The residency is intended as a vehicle for artists to hone their skills, experiment, and dive into making performance. It is open to dedicated artists of all performance disciplines. \nPhoto credit: L: Bhumi B. Patel; Photo by Lydia Daniller. R: Cosmic Elders Theatre Ensemble; Photo by Robbie Sweeny.\n
