Communications Manager (Part-Time)

Deborah Slater Dance Theater is seeking a part-time Communications Manager to join our small team to manage our social media accounts, create and manage marketing and fundraising materials, and maintain the website. This position is an opportunity to stretch creatively, learn new skills, and help improve the outreach and engagement of a long-time Bay Area institution. Work will primarily be conducted remotely and the Communications Manager will need their own computer, internet connection, and space to work.  This is a contract position for an average of 10 hours per week at $25 per hour. Job Duties 

  • Marketing and Communications: Social Media  (35%)
    • Create/manage social media content (photo/video/graphic/text) and update social media accounts weekly
    • Initiate and manage advertising campaigns on social media
  • Communications: Fundraising and Public Relations (25%)
    • Create and manage monthly email newsletters in collaboration with DSDT directors
    • Help create and deploy two - three donor fundraising campaigns over the year
    • Help create and execute strategies to increase donor engagement year-round
    • Track donations and send thank you letters to donors
    • Maintain updated press list and work to increase DSDT’s engagement with the press
  • Marketing: General  (15%)
    • Create and deploy campaign to increase rentals at DSDT’s Studio 210
    • Create event pages on Eventbrite and manage ticket sales for events
    • Submit events and opportunities to Dancers’ Group and other online platforms
  • Graphic Design (15%) 
    • Create postcards, flyers, posters, and programs for events in collaboration with DSDT directors
    • Create graphics for use in email newsletters and on social media
  • Website (10%)
    • Manage and install updates
    • Add/delete events, help improve SEO, and keep website media and copy current

Desired Skills

  • Strong working knowledge of Instagram/Facebook with an understanding of how to create engaging content, optimize post views/shares, and increase engagement;
  • Experience with donor engagement/fundraising and/or strong interest in developing fundraising skills;
  • Experience with graphic design and using Adobe Creative, Canva, or similar tools;
  • Familiarity with email marketing platforms, MailChimp preferred;
  • Familiarity with maintaining websites, experience with Wordpress a plus;
  • Good working knowledge/experience with Google Workspace (Drive, Gmail, Sheets, and Docs);
  • Ability to work independently and set and manage own deadlines;
  • Familiarity with dance/performing arts preferred.

Production Manager (Short Term)

Deborah Slater Dance Theater is seeking a short term Production Manager during the month of July for our Studio 210 Summer 2024 Residency Shows. Estimated total work hours will be between 20-25 hours at $25 per hour. Work will primarily be conducted at Studio 210 in San Francisco between July 25th-27th, 2024.  This is a contract position. Job Duties 

  • Schedule and run production meeting with crew and Residents.
  • Tech rehearsal 7/25, 10am- 6pm - Help set up room, provide additional help where needed, responsible for keeping rehearsal running on schedule, keep time,  make notes for Stage Manager, and help resolve any issues.
  • Shows 7/26 and 7/27, 5:00pm-10pm each day -Help set up room, check-in Residents and crew,  handle last minute production details, work with Stage Manager to get audience in and seated, provide any additional prop/set support before and during shows, ensure show runs smoothly, provide additional support where needed, help clean up and load out at end of night.

Desired Experience and Skills

  • Previous experience as a production manager for live dance/theatrical events;
  • Experienced and comfortable with running tech rehearsals and managing small productions.
  • Flexible and willing to pitch in where needed.
